Yummy Claypot

I bet you have never seen this (unless you watched the tv program my parents did) or heard of this before :

a whole chicken stuffed into a pig’s stomach. Intriguing right? Trust me, I was shocked at how clever chefs could be. They have my utmost respect!

First it came in this HUGE claypot

They serve this table side, and this was exactly how it was served to us. First it was submerged in this super tasty and peppery soup which had herbs and fish maw in it. Then they took out the pig’s stomach and started dissecting it to take the chicken out. It still makes me wonder how they stretched it SO thin! Baby said we will give this a try soon! hehe

What’s more amazing is the chicken was still tender, the meat just simple drops off the bone. The stomach protected it from drying out! (:

the soup was SO GOOD. really. haha.

that’s how thin the stomach is!

of course that’s not all we had. haha

we ordered toufu : so good with rice ! haha

crispy egg omelette!

kai lan cooked two ways : with garlic and deep fried!

yes u read it right! it’s deep fried kai lan leaves! Super interesting right? it’s very very yummy! hehe

By the end of the night, our tummies were very very satisfied (:

(Please call to book forthe pig stomach soup a day before)

I love days like these. Nothing is planned, just a free afternoon to spend with my dearest mummy. No fancy restaurants, no high teas, just a simple meal and having a nice chat (: I’ve never had this before, but mum has and she said I would like the bee hoon. and I did. She knows me best for sure!

It’s located in Food Republic, at a corner. and it was yummy. haha It was just the 2 of us, but we ordered quite a bit! and in the end, we had to packet the leftovers. hehe

this is the fried bee hoon my mum was talking about. It’s thin, but full of flavour. Every bite you take, gives you a punch. A nice punch, not those that hurt, those that make you smile. (: plus the peanuts that are hidden like treasures, gives u the crunch!

pair it with their homemade chilli, match-made in heaven.I would so buy the chilli if it’s on sale. haha

i secretly love to eat pork floss. LOVE. really. i do. and it’s just genius to top fried egg plant with pork floss. The blendness of egg plant with the saltiness and sweetness of pork floss : perfect.

and this golden crispy delish i duck wrapped in yam. I love this combination. I had it when I went to Pacific House for the first time. So glad we could find it in Singapore! (: Crispy on the outside, tender and soft on the inside. The duck was cooked to perfection. Still tender and juicy, not a single bit dry.

A simple yet amazing meal. Absolutely love days like this. (: Thanks Mummy!

A place that was recommended on New City Beat (城人新杂志) and it really caught the eye of EVERYONE in the family. In fact it was mummy and daddy that asked me to book this place for lunch with them! (: I was overjoyed and when I was there I really wanted to try everything! haha it’s an Italian wine bistro that is opened by Koreans! It originated in Seoul. How cool is that!

I love the decor of the place. Filled with wine and wine glasses, bulbs and bulbs of dried garlic. Very cosy, especially the booth seats. (: AWESOME.

As there were only the 3 of us, we had to limit our choices to the following three :

The Anchovy Garlic Cream Fondue : served with whole baked garlic cloves, vegetables and bread. This was a crowd pleaser I tell you. SO GOOD. Dad didn’t leave a single drop. You see, he is a garlic lover. (:

small but mighty.

the waiter in the background squeezing the garlic out. YUMS.

next up : The Garlic Bread Tower

how cute is this yummy little thing? STUFFED with heaps of garlic. But not too overwhelming for some reason. PERFECT!

press the garlic in well then…

cut it into 8 pieces and pop them into your mouth! (:

how pretty is this pizza? it’s the Garlic Snowing Pizza (:

mayo base, so it’s a little sweet to the palette, crispy slices of garlic, prawns, pineapple bits and the snow? Parmesan! This came in second. The Anchovy garlic cream still top the chart!

roll it up, and CHOMP ! see how thin the base is?

love them both to bits. (:

prepare for my return at the end of the year. MORE THAN ONCE !

A Sugee Cake Just To Say Thank You.

29 Jun

I recently stopped work and really wanted to thank my boss and I knew from the very start sugee cake was her facourite cake of all time. So I couldn’t not bake it for her. I never really baked it before, and was a little nervous to be giving her my very first attempt to be honest. But as I was leaving for Melbourne very soon, I didn’t have much time to bake another. So a successful first attempt was what I was praying for!

Thankfully, I read Ju’s post on The Little Teochew (yes the same awesome person who baked and shared her Japanese Cheesecake recipe, thank you!) a couple of months ago, and bookmarked the recipe of the sugee cake she baked (adapted from Cherry on a Cake) and hers looks amazing! So I took a deep breath and plucked up my courage and gave this a try.

Ju did use almond silvers but I didn’t have that, and used pumpkin seeds instead. However, they didn’t stay on top and sank all the way to the bottom instead! hehe I must say it didn’t look very pretty, but it did taste pretty good! and goes well with a hot cup of coffee or tea. Thankfully, my boss enjoyed it very much! (: So thank you Zurin, for sharing the recipe, and thank you Ju for giving the tips!

Hershey’s Kisses (Nutella) Blossoms

28 Jun

I have been wanting to bake these for the longest time. My dearest cousin, Gladys, blogged about these a while back and I promised her we would bake this together. I am SO GLAD we did! (: I had so much fun making it with her, and I tried my best to let her get involved, seeing how I am always very bossy in the kitchen haha. So I hope she enjoyed herself as much as I did!

So off we went to the supermarket to get Hershey’s Kisses! (: It’s like my favourite type of choc ever! I love the almonds ones, but something else attracted our eyes : CARAMEL ! Who could resist caramel ? I definitely can’t. hehe

to be honest, I have always been hesistant about making cookies. Of course I have failed in making cupcakes or cakes before, but somehow, the failure in making cookies hit me more than the others did! So I left the cookie baking to my baby. hehe. But this time, I decided to suck it up and give it another shot! I love how it looks! It’s sooo pretty! (: Makes me smile just looking at the photos!

pss : thanks cousin for sharing the recipe and baking with me! love ya!

Tel : 67339088

How cute is the name of this cafe? It’s hidden is a corner of Tanglin Mall and when you walk pass the place, you will not be able to resist stepping into the place! The warmness of the light, and their decor will draw you in almost immediately! No, I’m not exaggerating! Go see it for yourself!

Even their outdoor setting looks so cozy! (: Definitely a place I would have repeated appearance!

The prices are also very reasonable!

We ordered a starter : Mezze Platter. It includes freshly baked pita bread, zaatar hummus, baba ganoush, marinated feta, oives and labneh. The presentation was just so pretty! I was in awe when it arrived on the table!

You could have a set meal for $15 and it includes a soup or salad and a main meal (3 choices to choose from)!

June jiejie decided to have the set meal and for that day, it was tomato soup with a slice of garlic bread. So pretty the colours! (:

and her main was the pan fried red snapper with steamed pak choy and asparagus with a cepes emulsion. SO GOOD. the fish was so fresh. and the gravy just compliments the whole dish!

and I ordered the seared five spiced duck breast with duck confit hash cake, date and lemon chutney and a tempura spinach. Let me tell you. THIS.IS.YUMMY! (: Really. The duck breast was cooked perfectly. and the duck confit in the hash cake – genius! This is definitely a MUST TRY dish! You just gotta take my word for it!

Thanks for bringing me to this awesome place! (: And also for the treat!

Ps : I am so going back there at least once more before I head back to Melbourne!

Tel: 64633741
Opening hours :
Sun, Tues-Thurs 12 noon-11pm
Fri-Sat 12noon-1am
Closed on Mondays

Even before I got home, I have been seeing and hearing about Everything With Fries. So when I got back, I just really needed to give this place a try! I decided to head there with Stephie one night and we really ate ourselves silly! Sadly, we were so stuffed we weren’t able to have the nutella tart that we planned from the start. haha guess we just have to head back again soon! (:

We started the night with floats! (: I had root beer and steph had coke!

we haven’t had floats in a while and when it first came, we poked our straws in and it started flowing out! haha by the time we sucked on our straws to stop it from overflowing, the drink was more than half gone! heh

our starter was a recommendation by the waitress (: Skinny wings! she said it was their signature, and so we tried it! It was really yummy!  Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A really good recommendation indeed! We realise the reason why it’s called skinny wings, it’s not cause it’s healthy. haha but cos it has only one bone! they took out the other (:

Steph ordered creamy salmon in a cup! It’s like a thick and creamy stew that will allow you to dip the fries into it and indulge! (: I liked it, cause I am someone who loves gravy. haha and to me, this was really yummy! and tasty hehe

how good does that look? (:

my pork cutlet sandwich! (: it was so good. and I chose to flavour my fries with sour cream and onion. hehe really good i tell you. (:

and every main comes with a side of caesar salad! which i love!

definitely going back for nutella tart. SOON! (:

Bedok : Mini Food Paradise

18 May
Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim Mee Pok
308 Bedok Road (Simpang Bedok)
Bedok Shopping Complex
Closed on Mondays

We were going to East Point to collect mummy’s specs and decided to find something to eat near the area. We headed to Bedok! (: And boy was I glad we did! We found where the famous Jalan Tua Kong Mee Pok is! You see, Paul and Peggy have been talking about this place for the longest time, and after trying their chilli (which can be bought from there), I had to try this place. It was THAT good. (:

when you do visit this place, be prepared to wait. There is ALWAYS a crowd! We were there at almost 3pm and it was still crowded!

we ordered the small bowl of noodles ($3) and it was just nice for us, but I think for the big boys, they would need the bigger bowl ($4).

it was SO GOOD. (: loved every single bit of it! The noodles were cooked to perfection and they really gave heaps of meat for such a small bowl!

it came with a bowl of soup which was really tasty! yes i know, I only got good things to talk about this time. (:

Esther’s Pot Mini Soon Kueh
348 Bedok Road Bedok Market Place
#02-25/26 Singapore 469560

we also went to get mini soon kuehs! It has been my favourite since I was really little. Dad use to buy it for me on his way home from work, cause he knew I like them! hehe yes. I was always a daddy’s girl. hehe. This time, for the first time, I went there with my parents.

Esther’s Pot Mini Soon Kueh. Even better than I remembered it to be.

it’s only as big as a saucer! (:

I should do this more often. Going to areas in Singapore that I seldom go to and try their food there!

Now, I’m craving for prata. haha have been for a really long time! haha. Recommendations anyone?

Nandos : Pre-opening Singapore

18 May
Nandos
Bugis Junction
(Malay Street)
200 Victoria Street
#01-85 Bugis Junction

Thanks to Twitter I got a chance to enter the competition of winning pre-opening tickets for Nandos!

YES! Nandos has arrived in Singapore, at long last! (: And boy was it good!

Although there are only limited things we can order. but everything was freee! hehe (: What we were given were Nandos dollars, hehe so cute! 300 dollars to be exact.

So, almost immediately upon arrival, we were greeted by an enthusiastic bunch of people and were shown to our seats. It was a little different from the Nandos in Melbourne, as it’s not self-service. Rather we were served. They gave us a brief but clear explanation as to how the night was going to be and which are the dishes we could order.

As a starter, we were recommended to order the the peri soup and I was so glad you took that recommendation. It was really quite good! (:

and the food came very quickly too!

the happy faces (:

I had an extra ticket (I was given a table of 4) I asked Stephie to join us! (:

out chicken! (: hehe We ordered the HOT! we kinda felt that it’s actually spicier in Singapore as compared to the one we had in Melbourne. (: to suit the taste buds in Asia i suppose? it’s good! not complaining at ALL!

our sides! (: we were given a choice of 2 sides each! The must have that we all ordered as one of our sides was the peri peri chips. Then we ordered a different second side each.

I had the peri corn, steph had the peri potato salad, dad had the rice and mum had the coleslaw.

We all really enjoyed ourselves! (: Everyone who misses Nandos should really go give it a try! You won’t regret it!

Happy Mother’s Day : Heart Cake!

9 May

To all mothers out there : Happy Mother’s Day!

To my mummy : Thank you for being so awesome all the time. Caring and loving us unconditionally. Love you very much! (:

I decided to bake a cake for both my mum and my baby’s mum. and was looking through blogs to get inspiration. Then it hit me when I saw a post on I am Baker : Heart Cake .

It’s not literally a cake that looks like a heart. It’s a heart in a cake! What better cake to bake for my mum right? hehe When I saw the steps to making it, I was a little taken aback. Firstly, big cakes aren’t really my thing. Secondly, neither is high layered cakes. haha so yes. I was taking a very huge risk! But I told myself, if I pull this off, it would all be worth it!

Like I am Baker, I used a white cake and filled it with red velvet cake to make the heart in the cake and topped it with buttercream icing. hehe The oohs and ahhs when the cake was cut made me smile, but sadly, the icing was too sweet for anyone’s liking! So I decided that when I do make it again, I should use a cream cheese icing instead. But well, I think the cake was yummy and the sweetness might still be bearable if u eat it with a cup of hot tea! haha but yes. Definitely changing the icing. hehe

The piece that was cut out had a nicer heart shape! haha the bigger piece looked like a butt according to my mum haha. I made a U-bottom heart instead of a V-bottom. Bad cutting skills!

overall, I enjoyed the making process very much. Though it was very time consuming. But the end result was worth every single minute working on it and also the smile on my mum’s face! Plus I found out it was difficult trying to surprise my mum. She would continuously ask questions. haha. (:

So here’s the recipe adapted from I am Baker! I won’t be writing the step by step cause her explanation is very very clear! and she has step by step pictures. hehe So hop over to her blog and give this cute cake a shot!

Thank you for everything again mummy. ♥
